Affordable Housing

One of my friends moved into a gorgeous "Seniors with Low Income" apartment building. Rent is based on your income. It took her a bit, but she has settled in and made friends. Transitioning can be a challenge when you've lived in your own house for thirty or forty years.

It's also difficult to part with much of your furniture and small treasures which meant nothing to anyone but you. We will all get to that point.

Her apartment is so beautiful! One bedroom, one bath - a few ladies from our church helped decorate it - lovely!  I believe these Seniors with Low income places are everywhere as it is supplemented by the government. Oh and someone on staff is there during the day and there is someone there daily to fix things or help you settle in (hanging curtain rods, etc.).

At the apartment, there are activities like sharing "covered dish" meals. Also a nearby church sends a bus over to pick up anyone who wants to attend Sunday services.

And once a month the church has a lunch meeting (covered dish) called "Prime Timers." There's always a speaker and/or music. And occasionally they take a bus trip. The latest one was to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

It's good to know, as we grow older, that there are places like this.
